Diagnosed ADHD and her son has ADHD

Anna is an Integrative Psychotherapist with much experience of working with ADHD and ASD clients. She was diagnosed ADHD recently and has a son diagnosed ADHD too. She is passionate about helping ADHD clients particularly with addiction issues and eating disorders.

Anna understands addiction doesn’t necessarily mean drugs and alcohol – it can just as easily be exercise, shopping, sex, prescription medication, gambling, work or a phone. The list is endless but when any one, or a combination of issues, goes from being a ‘coping strategy’ to something that is causing an inability to cope, brings chaos in your life or problems with the criminal justice system – that’s the time to get help.

Her passion to help Headstuff Liberty clients comes from a clear understanding and personal experience of how quickly a persons life can descend into chaos if they are not diagnosed ADHD young enough or are diagnosed later in life.

All the missed opportunities of reaching potential, being labelled as ‘naughty’ or ‘disruptive’, the crippling effect this can have on your self-confidence, knowing you have the ability to do great things but not being able to turn that into a reality. The frustration of seemingly not being able to live your life as easily as other people resulting all too often reaching for unhealthy coping mechanisms that further compound all the problems.

Anna firmly believes that with early intervention and a wider awareness of ADHD and ASD, more screening and diagnosis could lead to so many more people reaching their true potential in life and avoiding addiction and the criminal justice system.

Because Anna is able to offer Integrative therapy she is able to work with every client on an individual basis to establish what will work best for them. Some people feel a more direct therapy such as CBT or DBT is beneficial where as some people prefer the person-centred free flow approach.

Anna is also able to offer 1-1 tailored help for clients struggling with nutrition. Often with a diagnosis of ADHD and ASD there are issues around food. Anna is able to offer not only nutritional support with her knowledge and background in nutrition – she is also able to offer psychological help and practical help with nutrition to overcome longstanding relationship issues with food.

For lots of people with ADHD and ASD making wise food choices can be hard. The temptation to binge on high sugar and high fat food can be strong. For many people this leaves them feeling like they have no will power or are weak willed. It can be life-changing and illuminating when clients fully understand the reasons these cravings are strongly linked to the chemical receptors in their neuro-diverse brain and that food choices don’t come down to lack of will power.

Knowledge is key to understanding and Anna is passionate about helping clients gain a sense of empowerment to make different choices, coupled with the changes needed to become the best version of themselves.

Anna has experience of parenting both Inattentive and Combined ADHD. And is also happy to support parents who are dealing with their children’s eating disorders including binge eating, drug or alcohol addictions, OCD, Tourette’s and tics.
