~ Fighting for Your Freedom from Addiction & Crime ~

Why We Do What We Do ......

Headstuff ADHD Liberty has been set up by Sarah Templeton who is passionate about freeing ADHD teenagers and adults from lives of Addiction and Crime.

Sarah also runs a UK wide team of ‘All-Diagnosed ADHD’ Counsellors, through Headstuff ADHD Therapy, and her mission is to ensure all ADHD clients are able to access therapy from Counsellors with an ADHD brain themselves.

With ADHD-Diagnosed therapists now dotted between Devon, West Wales and North Yorkshire and new counsellors joining the team every month, Headstuff ADHD Therapy is busy helping ADHD children, teenagers and adults all over England, Scotland and Wales.

Having had years of therapy from Counsellors who didn’t know she had an ADHD brain, she knows how well-meaning but ultimately useless it can be if the therapist does not understand the intricate and unique workings of an ADHD brain.

Sarah was only diagnosed with ADHD herself at the age of 51 so spent half a century in the dark not understanding her own brain. On top of this, after her own further investigations, Sarah has since been diagnosed with several of the ADHD comorbidities including dyscalculia, dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder. Since the early 1990’s she had worked as a volunteer, tutor, trainee then qualified Counsellor for numerous Homeless, Addiction and Ex-Offender charities and in two Young Offender Institutes and two Adult Male Prisons.

Since 2015 and that life-changing ADHD diagnosis, she has finally understood why the Prisons, Young Offender Institutes, Drug Rehabs and Homeless Hostels are chockablock with mostly undiagnosed ADHD. Like her, these people think they know best, don’t like being told what to do and have a pathological hatred of authority! They are prone to addictive behaviour to satisfy the adrenaline seeking brain hence the Rehab connection. They find it very hard to settle and are reckless spenders which all too often brings Homelessness and have a brain that pushes them to risk-take and thrill-seek meaning they often find themselves in trouble with the law from a scarily young age.

Sarah herself has (just!) managed to stay on the right side of the law but has a deep compassion for those who haven’t managed to. Her own addictions were limited to food and shopping but she completely understands why people turn to alcohol, drugs and numerous other illegal or risky self-medicating coping mechanisms to deal with the exhausting ADHD racing brain that just won’t calm down and it’s constant nagging need for adrenaline.
